4th Annual X Fest - Cult Film Festival
Warm up your vocal cords for some blood curdling screaming at the X Fest Film Festival
If you like your movies violent and bloody and you’re going to be in Cape Town in the first week of August, you might want to pay a visit to the Labia Theatre. From 5-7 August the theatre will be hosting the 4th annual X Fest, billed as "South Africa’s Extreme, Underground & Cult Film Festival".
Over the past three years the festival has earned its cult status with a dedicated cult following of people who eschew Saw and the Japanese horrors so popular among horror aficionados because they’re for pansies.
Tickets for the movies are R30 and Black & Red PHANTOM Sambuca specials will be available at the Labia Theatre Bar for a mere R4 a shot.
The line-up includes:
- 5 August: X FLiX 2011. A gore-fest of international short films so far unseen on African shores. Included are Sweet Blood (from Spain), Marked (from our very own South Africa) and the fantastically titled Bunny the Killer Thing (from Finland).
- 6 August: Trash Humpers. Director Harmony Korine goes from one age spectrum - Kids - to the other with a group of sociopathic old people. As a special treat the movie is preceded by Umshini Wam, a short film starring Die Antwoord - also directed by Korine.
- 7 August: Driller Killer. It is, unsurprisingly, about an artist who snaps and starts to kill New York residents with a drill. It was directed by and stars Abel Ferrara.
Visit the X Fest website to see a complete line-up.

There are at least two shows per day and bookings are essential. Call 021 424 5927 to book your tickets or for more information on show times and details.
The Labia Theatre is located at 68 Orange Street, Gardens, Cape Town.
